What is Marble?

Marble is a natural stone that has been used as a building material for thousands of years. It’s a metamorphic rock that comes in many different colors and styles. After the marble is cut into slabs and is polished, the marble slabs gain a glossy shine on its surface which is very appealing. One thing marble is known for is having very unique veining and colors, some that cannot ever be matched. Although, it’s a beautiful stone, it needs more maintenance than almost any other stone.

Caring for Marble Countertops

Although marble looks great, it’s a high-maintenance countertop. It needs to be sealed very often since it’s a very porous stone. It’s heat resistant, but it’s still recommended to put a towel underneath a burning pot. When spills occur, they must be cleaned immediately since the porous stone will absorb the liquid and make a stain. We recommend that you use a cutting board vs cutting directly on the stone if you’re using metal or glass knives. Also never sit or stand on the stone since it can crack easily.
